Artistic approach

My artistitic approach

I use the techniques of traditionnal jewelry. I mainly work from metal panels or treads that I saw, laminate, hammer, solder or stamp. My creations are realised in silver 925, but I also use brass and recently aluminium. I try to include other materials in my work too as wool, fabric.

All the objects I realise are linked with the body. Therefore I mainly specialise in jewelry, ornament for the body, complement for it...

All my creation are telling stories. I always start from a personal experience, a question, a discovery, an outstanding event that touched me. During my studies at the Decorative Art school of Strasbourg, I worked on big machines that cover the body and hide it from others eyes. One could come and play with this imprisoned body. The machines could only perform basic functions and needed a constant repair. They had a kind of human caracter in their movements and their fragility. They imposed a close and personal contact with the visitors. This work brought me to interrogate the relationship that we develop with our own body and to think about how we perceive it. Our body represents what we show, like an open text to others' eyes. Ornamental jewelry that we wear in a visible or hidden way participate to the elaboration of various aspects of a person both in field of being and looking. How do we see our body, how do we handle our look. Dont we go towards uniformity, a society where everybody tend to look the same. Everything pushes us towards a universal criterion of beauty: the development of the plastic surgery, the body-building, the coaches... All these questioning urged me to create " The Kit of the completed woman ", jewels machines that invade our body to hide us completely behind an appearance, the one that is presently imposed to women.

I think that it was important to give you some examples of my previous creations to talk about my current work. The objects that I create arise from these works. These are also small machines that act on our body to be an integral part of the one who wears them.   I like the idea that small elements come to be added or to describe this extraordinary machine that is the body. But contrary to the " kit of the perfect woman ", which hides the person and her identity and uniqueness, the jewels that I create addresses the individual who will know the story, the meaning of the "adopted" object, and who can "play" with: playful, mobile jewels, which tell stories, small imaginary world on the surface of skin.   For example I created a whole series of rings " to amuse fingers ", to create substitutes (prostheses) of the world of the childhood so that the adults always keep a part of the child that is in them: windmills, rattles, musical rings created out of music boxes..

I also created objects inspired by the organs of our body, so that what is hidden by the skin becomes a jewel: "story in transit ", the brooch with blood group, human heart-shaped wedding rings.... Furthermore in most of my jewels there are hidden texts or stories revealed to the person who adopts the object : rings in Braille that squall "chut", wedding rings for single persons with classified ads registered above.
